It all comes down to the next 17 days...

So I have been in Canada for quite sometime and although i said i would make a blog detailing my adventures, I ran into some unforseen hiccups in the plan. First off, I live in a postapocalyptic District 9 concentration camp with 2,000 other souls; which means the internet is rudimentary at best. Downloading the page just to sign into hotmail takes a solid 20 minutes and when there are bursts of speed then there are no free computers. Although i came to work thus far it's been rather skimpy on the hours. This is not as bad as it may sound as according to our contracts we get paid for 5 days a week of working whether we actually work or not. This means i have been paid to go play in Seattle, ski, shop, snowshoe, hike, and have any adventure imaginable. In the works are bungee jumping, snowmachining the backcountry, the ziplines, and whatever free concerts we have coming through. However, I have recently discovered the free and fast connectivity of the Blenz coffee house internet in Whistler. This means alot of time spent online just because i can. The bonus to this is it's right next to the medals plaza so you can get hot cocoa(made with love and belgian chocolate), chat up atheletes and dignitaries, and check out all the action in the medals plaza including listening to sound checks by the likes of the Barenaked Ladies, Usher, and Feist. Talk about an international experience, at any one given moment you can listen to conversations in at least three different languages no matter where you go. There is definitely a palpable excitement in the air now that the Opening Ceremonies are just hours away instead of days. Every time one ventures into Whistler something new has popped up heralding the coming festivities and events. The atheletes are trained, the media is in place with their cameras ready to capture all the action, security is super tight (there are days when my credentials need credentials) and the fans of all nations are aswarm in team colors ready to cheer their heroes to victory. The best part of all this is i will be heading down to Vancouver in the morning to join the thronged and horded masses heading to the Opening Ceremony! It took some doing but i got a ticket that wasn't in the thousands in order to join in the joie that is the start of it all. From everyone who went to the opening ceremony preview they say it's going to be one spectacular show. I figure if i was going to just watch it all happening on TV i coulda stayed home but I'm not one to let an opportunity pass me by...so with that i wrap it up to wander about and join in the pregaming that is happening about town tonight in preparation of all that is to come in the next 17 days...wish me luck, here we go, let the games begin...
